A Google account will be required to register and attend BATChem. Some institutions, including Stanford and Berkeley, use Google accounts already; participants from those institutions and others should be able to use their .edu addresses to register and attend, i.e., you are not required to use a gmail address, but you must use a google account. Please register by July 16.
Submitting materials
BATChem registrants will receive a Google submission form to transmit abstracts, lightning talks, and posters as described below. Submissions may be accomplished piecemeal; please use the same submission form. If you discover an error in your abstract, you may edit or replace text directly on the submission form. If you wish to submit a revised lightning talk or poster, please email bayareatheory@gmail.com.
To submit an abstract, choose a topic from the drop-down menu and complete the corresponding text boxes--authors, title, body of the abstract text--on the submission form. Your abstract text should not exceed 3000 characters and may not include figures, tables, or pictures.
To prepare a lightning talk, record up to three minutes of narration accompanying three to five slides. A lightning talk is similar to ACS LiveSlides. You may use any software which captures both audio narration and video of your slides. Save or convert the recording of your lightning talk into mp4 format and title it with the letters "LT" and your name, e.g,. "LTAlfredPennyworth.mp4". Files in mp4 format may be uploaded with a maximum file size of 100MB. Further instructions and tips regarding lightning talks can be found here. Several recording options are described here. And, a sample lightning talk can be found here.
To prepare a poster, expand on the slides and ideas you presented in your lightning talk. The minimum poster size is 40 cm x 30 cm (W x H), and the maximum poster size is 4 ft x 3 ft (W x H). We recommend an aspect ratio of 4:3 (W:H) for the poster. The poster background may not be transparent. Before submitting your poster, make sure that all text and image details can be read and seen clearly. The maximum poster file size is 3MB. Title your poster with the letters "POS" and your name and save it in .PNG or .JPG format., e.g., "POSAlfredPennyworth.jpg".
Evaluation of Lightning Talks.
Lightning talks prepared by postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students and submitted by Sunday, June 27, 2021, will be evaluated by a panel of judges. Exceptional submissions in each of the three categories will be designated as Outstanding Lightning Talks. Prizes will be announced in gather.town at the beginning of BATChem.
The deadline for all other submissions is July 16. Materials submitted between June 28 and July 16 will not be judged but will be listed and linked in the online abstract book and posters will be displayed during BATChem's poster sessions.
